Inteligencia emocional en adolescentes tardíos en la Unidad Educativa Octavio Cordero Palacios de Cuenca en el periodo 2019-2020


Abstract:

Emotional Intelligence (EI) is defined as the ability to access or generate feelings that facilitate the thought process and regulate the emotions that promote an emotional and intellectual growth. During their adolescence, young people look for their identity, they learn to put into practice values that have been assimilated and developed throughout abilities, process that will lead them to become responsible adults. This paper follows a nonexperimental cross-sectional research design. It has a descriptive purpose, which is quantitatively focused. Its general objective is to describe the levels of the dimensions of EI according to the sociodemographic variables of late teenagers of Unidad Educativa Octavio Cordero Palacios from Cuenca. The studied sample was conformed by 117 students selected from the evening baccalaureate section of the high school. a sociodemographic form, and the WLEIS-S scale were used as the evaluation instruments, which allowed the measurement of interpersonal, intrapersonal dimensions of perception, as well as the use and regulation of the emotions among the tested subjects. The inclusive-exclusive criteria used for this study were the following: selected subjects must be between 15 and 19 years old, and they must be registered as a student of the evening baccalaureate section of this high school. In general terms, the results indicate that a considerable number of students show a low level of EI. In conclusion, the studied subjects show signs of emotional instability. This, added to the fact that the subjects are going through their adolescence, stage characterized for being full of changes and difficulties
