Investigating radionuclide source shielding performance using Ge-doped optical fibre thermoluminescence dosimeters
Abstract:
For distances ranging from 2-to 20 mm from the source centre of a 60Co source, investigation has been made of the sensitivity of Ge-doped optical fibre TL dosimeters, detecting beta-and gamma radiation. Along the transverse axis of the source, dose fall off has been evaluated to be to within 5% of pbkp_redictions for beta and photon-mediated components, obtained with Monte Carlo code DOSRZnrc simulations. Within the available measurement sensitivity, the encapsulation filtered out all beta particle contributions, as the design intended.
