Joint BS selection and resource allocation model for OFDMA macro-femtocell networks incorporating mobility

Abstract:

Enhancing the network throughput while supporting a large number of users is a challenge in OFDMA macro-femtocell networks. OFDMA macro-femtocell network is an interference limited capacity performance system due to the cross-tier and co-tier interference. Previous research works provide some approaches based on spectrum partitioning or spectrum sharing and interference management without considering user mobility. In this paper, we propose a spectrum sharing approach with interference mitigation and its performance analysis taking into account macro user mobility. By means of Linear Programming model, our solution aims to maximize the network throughput. Moreover, power adaptation is implemented to reduce the interference and to achieve the QoS requirements. The proposed solution: (1) determines the best serving base station, and (2) selects subcarriers and their respective transmitted power for downlink transmissions taking into the users' locations and demands in any given period. Simulations were conducted to show a comparison of the proposed model with spectrum partitioning and spectrum sharing with macro users prioritization. © 2013 IEEE.
