KEYS TO OBSTETRIC EMERGENCY IN POSTPARTUM HEMORRHAGE


Abstract:

The obstetric keys are part of the most relevant initiatives and strategies implemented by the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) of Ecuador, and are identified as a system of roles and functions that are used in an emergency situation. The objective was to test the knowledge of the red key in 20 nursing professionals working at the Hospital Provincial General Docente Riobamba. The methodology was transversal, with a quantitative-descriptive approach. To obtain the data, a questionnaire with closed questions was elaborated to address general concepts on obstetric hemorrhage, obstetric hemorrhage, obstetrical hemorr-hage, the use of the red key and the use of the red key in emergency situations. Results: 50% referred that uterine atony is the most frequent cause of postpartum hemorrhage, only 45% adequately indicated which are the signs and symptoms of severe hypovolemic shock, 40% referred to activate the red code according to the bleeding estimation, 85% got the first line medications right and in the maneuvers performed only 30% answered correctly, 55% complied with the specific functions code red. Conclusions: It is necessary to have a rigorous and continuous scientific training, constant and careful practice according to established procedures and standards, to ensure professional competence congruent with the needs of patients.
