Knowledge And Attitudes About Obstructive Sleep Apnea Among Newly Graduated Physicians
Abstract:
Background Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a treatable disease that might bare severe complications. Low rates of physician’s recognition in spite of its high prevalence have been widely reported. Latin American primary care physician’s knowledge is 60%, and although 73.5% felt confident in identifying patients at risk for OSA, only 35.4% felt confident in managing them. No significant differences in overall knowledge by time since graduation were found. In addition, the taskforce 2000 survey study showed a mean teaching time in United Statesof less than 2 hours (65%), for graduate education in sleep. Thus, we addressed to know if the origin of the lack of knowledge was pre-graduate training.
