Knowledge and specific professionals competences: A sample in surgical nursing at UNIANDES, Ecuador


Abstract:

Upon recognition that competency-based education is one of the ways to address the relevance and quality of education in general and professional formation in particular, even in the context of current debates on the subject, and considering Tuning's model of specific and generic competences as an option to implement such education, this study aims to support the indissoluble close relationship between knowledge and specific professional competences in the process of formation in higher level and its expression in Surgical Nursing. This requires a critical reflexive study based on analysis and synthesis was performed, as well as confirmation of the validity of the points of views taken as reference for the development of a text of surgical or perioperative nursing employee in the process of formation of nurse in a university. This made it possible to show how in the Nursing career of the Autonomous Regional University of Los Andes in Ecuador, the formation of this professional has been conceived by properly integrating knowledge and competencies, expressed in the elaboration of a scientific work that allows the foundation and updating of relevant knowledge needed in the field of surgical nursing for the development of education by competencies in the formation process of this professional.
