La Big Band del pueblo: análisis compositivo de tres obras específicas del segundo portafolio (2001) del compositor y arreglista Manuel Nazca, aplicado a un formato de Big Band
Abstract:
The current work is the adaptation of village bands’ popular music to big band musical format. The village bands are a musical format very important in Ecuador because through them the traditional music such as sanjuanitos, pasacalles, albazos, etc., were diffused, a similar role played the Big Bands in USA with the diffusion of jazz. For this paper there were chosen three works of the composer and arranger Manuel Nazca and it was applied Guillo Espel’s formal analysis to the three works chosen. Furthermore, it was made an orchestral analysis to three big bands themes in order to compare the results from Nazca’s work and the Big band’s themes. The purpose of this work was to adapt all the resources found in the Big Band’s songs to the themes of Manuel Nazca, so as to discover a similar sonority between the village bands and the Big Bands. This project belongs to the line of popular composition research and the final results were arranged for a Big band format and shown in a final concert where a big band performed.
