Análisis de la crisis carcelaria en Ecuador y recomendaciones sobre el sistema penitenciario Chileno.

Abstract:

The objective of this investigation is focused upon the critical analysis of the main reasons that have provoked the so-called Jail Crisis in Ecuador. At the moment, jails do not comply with the objective of safeguarding and resocializing people stripped of their liberty, this being due to the apalling administration of the penitentiary system, therefore producing; overcrowding, overpopulation, corruption, violence and a plethora of other problems that hinder the proper functioning of social rehabilitation and the development of incarcerated individuals human rights. It is throughout this analysis that solutions which will strive towards the erradication of the aforementioned problems and inconveniences will be found, in order to accomplish this, a comparison with Chile's penitentiary system will be conducted, due to the fact that it's the Latin American country that occupies second place in the list of nations with least jail overpopulation with a mere 30% of overcrowding amongst all countries in the region. It is from this comparison that the measures and alternatives that make Chile's penitentiary system superior amongst others will be demonstrated, and it will be argued whether it is possible to implement them in Ecuador, in order to obtain better results in the penitentiary administration.
