La influencia de factores institucionales y características sociodemográficas en la representatividad de las mujeres en la Asamblea (2002 - 2021)
Abstract:
There are a large number of studies of legislative political representation that often are focused on developed countries and also with parliamentary systems. In this study of female representation in Ecuador –presidential system with a unicameral legislature, little studied– were analyzed the influence of the sociodemographic characteristics and institutional factors on the (re)election for a legislative position at the national level (both in the district seats and in the national). Using official data from 2002 to 2021, together with an extensive review of information from secondary sources, the results obtained showed that although there are mechanisms to defend gender equality, such as the quota law, women continue to be marginalized. Although institutional factors add significant weight to the description of legislative representation, sociodemographic characteristics have a high level of influence within the legislative process.
