La institucionalización y las redefiniciones del movimiento afrodescendiente de Quito, 2000-2013.
Abstract:
The investigation provides an study about Afroecuadorian social organization in Quito, its results and redefinitions in terms of its mobilization and organization repertoires. It explores specific forms of social organization in relation to the formal institutionalization of its demands executed by the local government of the Metropolitan District of Quito through public policies of social inclusion between 2000 to 2013. The research analyzes the process of Afrodiasporic social organization in the experience of FOGNEP (Federación de Organizaciones y Grupos Negros de Pichincha – Federation of Black Groups and Organizations of Pichincha), discussing its organizational characteristics and strategies of relations with local government. Analyzing the contentious relations between these two social subjects through the lens of the concept of social inclusion, this work explores the operation of both colonial and modern capitalism in relation to the power relations encoded in (de)colonial practices related to social organizing. In the last moment of the analysis, the work evaluates the effectivity of legal instruments in favor of the Afro community in Quito in a light of statistical evidence regarding social inequalities related to education, housing, employment and protections against discrimination.
