Abstract:

The goal of this Research paper is to introduce Intercultural Studies to communications majors in the Philosophy Department at the Universidad Católica Santiago de Guayaquil. Current topics such as interculturality, racism, and discrimination are absent from the curriculum, thus the imperative need to recognize the relevance of these issues within the context of current socio-historical events. The theoretical approach utilized to conduct this research project includes the opinion of various authors, many of whom are experts in the fields of Interculturality, Education, and Communication- and whose expertise proved to be central to conducting and completing my research. The methodology utilized to conduct my research derives from develomental field work and empirical observation. This prospectus aims to establish the creation of an Intervention System that includes: Teacher-Student Methods Guide, Video, DVD, CD, workshops, panels, and evaluations; meant to be used by educators as pedagogical tools when covering lessons related to interculturality, equality, and discrimination as they appear in the micro curriculum. Our current 387 communications majors are targeted to be the immediate beneficiaries of this research and, through them, trickle down to Guayaquil society at large
