La participación de la comunidad San Jacinto de Santay de la Isla Santay hacia el turismo

Abstract:

This research aims to know ¿what is the level of involvement and influence of the community in the tourist offer on “Isla Santay”? An analysis of the involvement of the community of San Jacinto de Santay towards tourism is then performed. This is an applied research that used a qualitative approach; the instrument used was an in-depth interview. The subject of study was 10 “comuneros” involved in tourism, 10 “comuneros” not involved in tourism, the President of the Association of “Comuneros” and a representative of the Ministry of the Environment of Ecuador. The results lead to the conclusion that the group that is directly involved in tourism is the one participating more actively in the project, and this research also provides access to all its benefits, on the other hand, the comuneros that are not involved in the project are asking for participatory spaces in which their ideas about the improvement of the current touristic offer that they own are taken into consideration, so they are able to perform touristic related activities. It is recommended to apply Orientated action for the generation of more participatory spaces that include the involvement of all existing actors in the, the needs and existing potentialities in the community are also taken into consideration for this research work.
