Label-free colorimetric detection of nanomechanical bending for high-throughput sensing

Abstract:

In this work we present the fabrication of polymeric mechanical sensors (membranes) with a nanostructured side, which diffract the light depending on the nanostructure diameter and pitch. We exploit the white light diffraction of these nanostructured flexible photonic membranes to achieve a power-free array of devices that change their reflective color depending on the bending produced on each sensor. The structural characterization of these membranes was performed by SEM, while the optical properties and the pressure-color relation were evaluated via UV-Vis reflection spectrometry. The reflected color change with pressure is as well evaluated by using a smartphone camera.
