Lactancia materna ineficaz influenciada por factores psicosociales en madres “]Centro de Salud Tarqui”. Cuenca 2017

Abstract:

Background: Natural breastfeeding is an essential factor for the normal development of the newborn baby. In Ecuador, according to ENSANUT- ECU 2012, exclusive and continuous breastfeeding practices do not reach adequate levels nor do those reach the established goals set by Plan Nacional del Buen Vivir 2013-2017 (1). Because of this, there is a need for further development on this topic throughout studies focused on Inefficient Breastfeeding and the underlying Psychosocial Factors influencing it. Objective: Identify the psychosocial factors that influence ineffective breastfeeding in mothers of the Tarqui Cuenca Health Center, 2017. Methods and techniques: A quantitative and descriptive was applied. The population of the study consisted of 150 breastfeeding mothers, aged 15 - 49. A questionnaire was applied to investigate on the mothers’ breastfeeding practices, as well as psychological tests, including the STAI test, previously validated through former studies in the field. The information was processed with the Microsoft Word program and the Excel and SPSS database, version 22. Results: The study reveals the occurrence of 62% Efficient Breastfeeding Practices as compared to 38% of Inefficient Breastfeeding Practices; 25.3% correspond to mixed feeding, and 12.7% to artificial feeding. It was possible to determine that the factors, which have significant influence on Inefficient Breastfeeding Practices, are work and study practices, and mothers’ anxiety (20,13%). Conclusions: Possible causes of Inefficient Breastfeeding Practices are work (32.4%) and study practices (11.3%), and the working mothers’ anxiety (29%), and medium vulnerability to stress factors (18%)
