Lasiocroton trelawniensis (Euphorbiaceae), a critically endangered species from the cockpit country of Jamaica, belongs to Bernardia (Euphorbiaceae)

Abstract:

Lasiocroton trelawniensis (Euphorbiaceae), a critically endangered species from the Cockpit Country of Jamaica, belongs to Bernardia (Euphorbiaceae). Botanical Review Vol. 74, No., 1 2008.-A taxonomic study based on scanning electron microscopy of pollen, macro-morphology, and a molecular phylogenetic analysis of the chloroplast DNA regions trnL-F and rbcL shows that Lasiocroton trelawniensis belongs to the Neotropical genus Bernardia. The main morphological differences between Bernardia and Lasiocroton are given, and the new combination Bernardia trelawniensis is provided. © 2008 The New York Botanical Garden.
