Lean six sigma methodology effects on the molds changing time in the foam thermoforming area: An ecuadorian case

Abstract:

This study presents a strategy to reduce mold changes time in thermoforming machines that use foam as raw material. The DMAIC methodology is applied and in each phase quality tools, statistical techniques and lean techniques are used, particularly in the improvement phase where the SMED technique is proposed. SMED application improves dies change time. Costs are calculated; control methods are established in order to ensure that applied improvements are monitored. Finally, standard procedures and teams training are developed, indicators to control process performance are created with corrective and preventive actions.
