Lectotypification of Thomas Nuttall's names applied to North American Polygala (Polygalaceae)
Abstract:
Lectotypes for Po\yga\a alba Nutt, P. ambigua Nutt, P. attenuata Nutt., P. balduinii Nutt., P. boykinii Nutt., P.fastigiata Nutt., P. pubescens Nutt., and P. purpurea Nutt are newly designated. These names apply to North American taxa and were published by Thomas Nuttall in 1818 and 1834. Even though Nuttall's earlier collections are primarily deposited in the herbarium of the Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia (PH), duplicates are also deposited at BM, CGE, LIV, and MANCH. Previous confusions on type designations are clarified.
