Lessons from Latin America: Embracing Horizontality to Reconstruct HCI as a Pluriverse

Abstract:

In this article, we illustrate some of the contradictions and overlapping between HCI’s mainstream structures and practices, and how these are experienced by the authors. We highlight key aspects of HCI as practiced by Latin American researchers and ways in which the vast knowledge production of LATAM can contribute to traditional HCI. When defined and conceived as lack of formality, informality can be seen as a problem to solve and become almost stigmatized.
