Leveraging living lab concept for convergence analysis of fog and cloud computing applied to WSN
Abstract:
Internet of Things is a paradigm that allows to connect devices, people, things, and processes. This new digital scenario will generate large volumes of data, which must be transported to the cloud, producing an incbkp_redible demand for network resources, infrastructure and storage. Fog Computing is a relatively new computing paradigm that was born as an alternative to extend processing capabilities of devices, but at the edge of the network. This feature will be ideal for applications and processes with response time restrictions. In this paper, we propose a test laboratory focused on a system for monitoring air quality and noise level. This system allows to evaluate convergence of Cloud and Fog computing in open source solutions, applied to a sensor network. The architecture proposal combines a network of sensors and actuators, Fog computing-as a gateway, and a pre-processing system of data and visualization of results in real time. Our test results show the feasibility of our proposal.
