Liberal politics and social well-being in México (1983-2012)

Abstract:

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the liberal politics implemented in Mexico in the last 30 years (1983- 2012) and the social well-being evolution of the country in this period. With this, we want to reflect if this type of economic policy could contribute to economic development of the country. For it, we have followed a descriptive-analytical research on political and socioeconomic conditions of the country in these 30 years. First, from a literature review, it is characterized this kind of economic policy. Subsequently, through a analysis, we discuss the evolution experienced during these three decades, the main economic and sociodemographic indicators of the country. To elaborate this set of indicators, we have consulted data sources of national and international organisms. The results of this investigation show that the characteristics of this economic politics it corresponds with a liberal politics. Also it shows how the values taken by the leading indicators have deteriorated, except some economic indicators like the public deficit and inflation. Therefore, it is concluded that these liberal policies have not helped stabilizing economic growth nor to improve levels of social welfare of the country during this period.
