Lifestyles of the older adult according to Nola J Pender in an urban and rural ecuadorian area
Abstract:
Introduction: Aging is a natural and inevitable succession that involves different factors such as genetic, biological, physiological, socio-environmental and cultural that are manifested in the gradual deterioration of the organism. Objectives: Determine the lifestyles of the elderly according to Nola J Pender in the urban and rural area of the 01D01 district of the Cuenca Canton - Ecuador. Methodology: Quantitative, descriptive cross-sectional study. The investigated population consisted of 340 elderly patients from the urban and rural areas of the 01D01 district of the Cuenca Canton - Ecuador. The information was collected using the “lifestyle profile questionnaire (PEVP-II)" by Nola J Pender, which provides guidelines that allow explaining the behaviors that are part of the lifestyle of individuals. Finally, for the categorization of the information, the SPSS 15 program was used. Results: The age that predominated in the studied population was 65 to 70 years (39.4%), female (64.7%), state civil married (63.8%), and origin from urban area (63.8%). Regarding their health conditions, one (45.3%) with Arterial Hypertension. Conclusions: 58.1% of older adults in urban areas have an unhealthy lifestyle, and 41.9% have a healthy one. However, in rural areas 87.8% unhealthy and 12.2% healthy.
