Lip Biometric Authentication Using Viola-Jones and Appearance Based Model (AAM) System


Abstract:

The lip biometric system focuses on the uniqueness of the parameters of the lips as a useful feature to distinguish similar-looking people. Data gathering includes five identical twins, ten similar faces, and ten dissimilar faces of still face-front images of subjects with neutral expressions were used to examine the efficiency and performance of the system. Different lighting conditions measured in flux under various distances have been characterized. The system employs the Viola-Jones algorithm for face detection and the Active Appearance Model (AAM) for lip extraction. An 87.5% accuracy resulted in using lips for human identity.
