Local development and tourism: Conceptualization, methodologies and applications

Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to make an approximation between the local development (LD) and tourism in order to determine if the tourism can be a strategy in the LD. In the document is presented the evolution, conception and elements of LD. As an added value, the main methodologies applied in these studies have been synthesized. It has been proved that there are differentiated positions among the members of the communities that are considered key actors in the processes. Finally, practical cases are shown where both concepts have been applied.
