Local development as support for the integration of tourism in Ecuador.


Abstract:

The processes of globalization have generated major changes in social development, it has broken the barriers of centralist dependence and localities now are linked with the world, without necessarily being subject to centralized countries decisions, so they are capable of generating their own growth; thus local development is presented as an alternative to self-determination; it is essential that certain internal and external conditions for its implementation, one of the most important are provided is the need to increase small and medium enterprises; Tourism is an activity that has the right to be assumed as an element generating development conditions; however, it is a double-edged sword that can on the one hand undermine the very essence of culture and territoriality, and the other presenting great benefits to communities generating direct and indirect employment, improving basic services and giving the opportunity to open spaces for the creativity of the people. In this paper the link between these two elements is proposed and their advantages and disadvantages are analyzed.
