Local downstream control method for irrigation canals

Abstract:

A local downstream control method is presented for the operation of irrigation canal systems. A target water level is maintained at the downstream end of each pool. In contrast to a centralized control method which uses the status of the flow in the entire system, the local control method requires only the status of the flow in the pool immediately downstream of a given gate.
