Localized tactile stimulation by time-reversal of flexural waves: Case study with a thin sheet of glass

Abstract:

This paper addresses the issue of producing localized tactile stimuli on a transparent surface. An approach based on time reversal of acoustic waves is presented and implemented on a thin glass surface actuated by piezoelectric transducers located at the periphery. The physical performance measurement, completed by a user study demonstrates the ability to provide localised and perceivable tactile stimulation. © 2013 IEEE.
