Location of SVC based on voltage profiles and contingency analysis


Abstract:

This paper presents a new methodology for fast determination of optimal location of SVC. Continuation power flows and eigenvalue analysis are useful for choosing the location of SVC. The sensitivity of the loading margin to voltage collapse can be used to estimate the change in the loading margin. The new methodology is tested on four systems, the IEEE 14, 30 and 57 bus test systems, and the Southern Spanish transmission network. To value the performance of system with respect to contingencies and voltage profiles two indices are proposed. To compare the answer of different systems a norm is proposed.
