Longitudinal evaluation of the gross motor improvement in 4 to 5 year old children by using kinect technology

Abstract:

This paper shows the results of the implementation of an electronic game for improving gross motor skills of 4 to 5 years old children. The objective of the children in the game is to catch as many moving objects as possible in a virtual environment. As a result of an experiment carried out over a period of four months, with the participation of 193 children from two educational institutions in the Tungurahua province, there was an increase of 43% in the level of success in actions involving the gross motor skills of children. A t-student test showed a significant difference on the behavior of children who played and played not with the proposed game with a p-value of 7.91848E-05. All these results support the validity of the proposal for improving gross motor skills in children 4 to 5 years old.
