Los que vienen, los que regresan: migraciones norte-sur y configuraciones locales del cuidado
Abstract:
Considering the case of North American retirees in Cuenca, Ecuador, this research examines the care relationships between North American retirees and returning migrants in the context of a double transnational migration process. For this, three parameters are analyzed: the motivations of North American retirees to undertake a migratory project towards Cuenca, the role of social networks and digital media in the configuration of care networks aimed at North American retirees, the dynamics of relations between American retirees and returnees. In addition, the paper examines the conformation of global chains of care and the social implications that this form of reproduction of global inequality has in a North - South migration receiving society. The work is based on an ethnographic investigation conducted between December 2017 and December 2018.
