A Fault-Tolerant Active Neutral Point Clamped (FT-ANPC) Converter

Abstract:

The reliability of the power converters is always a critical issue in the design of a new converter. In this paper, a new fault-tolerant active neutral point clamped (FT-ANPC) converter has been proposed. During normal operation, the proposed ANPC can generate seven levels of output voltage waveform using 6 unidirectional and 3 bidirectional switches. The fault-tolerant analysis for open-circuit and short-circuit faults has been accomplish. Carrier-based modulation technique has been used for the realization of the proposed FT-ANPC converter. The proposed converter has been simulated in PELCS and MATLAB software and has been validated for open-circuit fault condition. The power quality analysis for the different operating conditions has been carried out and the results have been summarized.
