Love in the consumer society

Abstract:

The peculiarity of the human condition has been defined from the standpoint of Anthropology on the basis of the interdependent relationship between nature and culture. It can be said that this interdependence is expressed with special intensity in love, a universal element of human life, the interpretation and experience of which will depend to a great extent on the cultural system by which it is affected. This article explores some of the aspects that have gained prominence in today's heterosexual relationships, by attending gender system as a transversal element, in a context marked by romantic idealization of love, individualism, freedom and uncertainty. In relation to these issues, the paper deals with some of the results from 46 in-depth interviews with men and women, who were contacted through different university centres in the province of Alicante.
