Lycalopex culpaeus reissii , the second largest canid in South America
Abstract:
Lycalopex culpaeus reisii is a Lycalopex Culpaeus' subspecie from the Canidae's family. The culapeus is the second most bigger canid in South America. In Ecuador, it is found on badlands, steppes and rainforests of the Antisana reserve and the Jerusalem refuge. It a shy and lonely animal that stands out for its reddish fur and its long skull. Usually, they keep a stable partner for reproduction and caring of the pups. Its diet is very varied but mainly it is about smaller mammals. Their main threats are the humans being, essentially because this Wolf is considered harmful for livestock, and the predation by feral and domestic dogs as well as the contraction of parasitic diseases. In addition, the research focused on this subspecies is rare in the country.
