MCSA based fault diagnosis of Surface Permanent Magnet based marine propulsion motors for inter-turn stator fault
Abstract:
Condition monitoring is integral in maintaining the health of a marine propulsion motor in marine electrical power systems. This research aims to diagnose the inter-turn faults when a Surface mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (SPMSM)is used in marine vessels. Machine current signature analysis (MCSA) techniques like Fast Fourier Transform, Discrete Wavelet Transform, and Hilbert-Huang Transform are employed to detect the inter-turns fault induced in SPMSM. The design algorithm is validated by applying Finite Element Analysis (FEA) method using ANSYS Maxwell 17.The simulation results demonstrate that the fault pattern is sensitive to inter-turns fault at any level.
