Malnutrition prevalence in patients older than 7 years at vicente corral moscoso hospital cuenca-ecuador: nutritionday 2019


Abstract:

Methods: Descriptive analysis of the nDay 2019 data recollected in a teaching hospital of the Ecuadorian Austro. This study focused on the following variables: weight, height, nutritional status according to BMI, nutrition-related standards, and nutrition care strategy indicators. Data analysis was done by SPSS version 15. Results: From 70 surveyed patients, mean age: 45 years, 42 (60%) were male, 16 (22.9%) had overweight, and 14 (20%) obesity. Characteristics of the nutritional support: only 27% had their caloric requirements determined and intake data recorded in their clinical history; 37% received parenteral nutrition; 60% were satisfied with the food delivered. The leading causes of lack of food intake were because they did not like it (10%) and poor appetite (7%). Conclusion: In this study, excess malnutrition was the most prevalent.
