Management culture in the organizations of the professional sport: Venezuela case

Abstract:

This article shows the results of an investigation, whose objective was to describe the distinctive features of managerial culture in professional sports organizations, specifying the case of Venezu-ela. To this end, the study was based on a qualitative approach, adopting as a method the grounded theory for the conceptual ordering of the data obtained through in-depth interviews. Twelve key informants were selected in five professional leagues, in order to understand the reality found. The results showed that even when certain characteristics that define a desirable managerial profile are appreciated, heterogeneous criteria exist that attempt against the implementation of a managerial culture under a system of common beliefs, attitudes and values and processes of continuous train-ing in the managerial area are not promoted. These aspects do not permit the articulation of effective actions to guarantee the changes that are required aligned with international standards of quality and sporting excellence.
