Manufacture of a three-sectional directional coupler for use in a low-cost laboratory

Abstract:

This research proposes the design, simulation and implementation of a three-section directional coupler. This coupler uses the microstrip line technique with a coupling coefficient of 30 dB, a characteristic impedance of 50 Ω and a frequency of 2.4 GHz. Due to the high costs of devices required in telecommunications, it is necessary to supply them through its development, with low-cost materials. The respective mathematical calculations were made and contrasted with the Advanced Design System (ADS) simulation software, additionally a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) was used where the measurements were characterized for analysis. The development of this device will allow the student to work in his own circuit and validate his knowledge, in such a way that his learning is complemented by this experience. Finally, the graphs obtained from the S parameters are shown, as well as the percentage error values, both simulated and practical.
