Maternal risk factors associated with preterm birth
Abstract:
Introduction: The research work refers to factors associated with the preterm maternity area of the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital, a health problem that affects the population rapidly. Objective: to determine the preconception and conceptional maternal risk factors associated with preterm birth. Material and methods: Quantitative, observational, analytical, Retrospective Cases and Controls. The sample 130 cases and 130 controls of pregnant women, deliveries occurred during 2016 in the hospital, met the inclusion criteria, analysis instrument “medical records” and data sheet. The SPSS statistical program was applied to analyze maternal risk factors. A bivariate analysis was performed with the ODDS RATIO (OR) 95% confidence interval (95% CI) of each risk factor. Multivariate analysis (binary logistic regression) evaluating the contribution of the factors that were significant in the uni-variate-bivariate analysis obtained the adjusted OR. Results: Preconception maternal factors associated with preterm birth adjusted for binary logistic regression: adolescent maternal age with an OR=0.495 and a 95% CI (0.26-0.94), the low economic level with an OR=2.134 and a 95 CI % (1.17-3.89), as a risk factor. Maternal conceptional factors associated with preterm birth (adjusted for binary logistic re-gression): urinary infection with an OR=3,074 and a 95% CI (1.73-5.47), bacterial vaginosis with an OR=7.93 and a 95% CI (1.76-35.72); both as risk factors. Conclusion: Age, low economic level and urinary tract infections considered as a risk factor for premature delivery.
