Mathematical modeling and computer simulation of the University of St. Thomas Microgrid: 3-phase short-circuit analysis

Abstract:

The variation in the contribution of distributed generation in a microgrid is a major problem in the study of short-circuits and power flows in microgrids. This issue is due to a greater or lesser contribution of active or reactive power which translates into changes in the load current, and as a result of these changes, the settings of the protective devices must change. The presented work was proposed for modeling a microgrid tied to a distribution system to calculate the three-phase short-circuit currents in the different buses of the power system under different scenarios. Mathematical and computer simulation models were developed and compared.
