Measure of the Attentional Bias in Children Using Eye Tracking During a Psychological Test

Abstract:

Eye tracking technology obtains and analyzes the visual behavior of a person towards a certain image. It offers the opportunity to know the fixation patterns of children through a test, which evaluates sustained and selective attention. From the neuropsychological point of view, attention is the basis for a correct cognitive functioning, characterized for showing interest in a particular stimulus or focusing on the same task. Therefore, it is of great importance the application of an examination of attentional functions in children from 7 to 9 years old in order to rule out possible alterations that interfere directly in their learning processes. A pre-validation process was performed with a group of 10 children; the results show that test application time was reduced to an average time of 2 min, compared to the 7 min duration when using pencil and paper.
