Media competences in university students in Latin America
Abstract:
After several years of studies in the media, it is important to ask the question of the degree of media competence of young people in Ibero- America; specifically in Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, Spain and Portugal, in order to know how a specific group develops that are the university students of the Millennials generation. The use and appropriation of ICT in scenarios such as the media, education, entertainment, social relations and in general the daily life of the subjects that will be part of the sample in the present investigation. We are talking about a phenomenon of convergence in which screens are vehicles for connection with others. The main objective of this research is to analyze the differences in the level of media competences among university students. To respond to these particularities, the research applied a quantitative methodology through the use of an online questionnaire. It was applied to a total of 4,351 university students. This research concludes that there are differences among university students by country. Generally, Peruvian university students have obtained low qualifications for dimensions compared to Colombian students who have obtained the highest scores by dimensions.
