Medical imaging segmentation methods: Foundations and scope

Abstract:

ardiac structures segmentation is a great interest issue to medical community, particularly, in cardiology since the segmentation of heart structures is useful for quantification and monitoring of cardiovascular function. Moreover, segmentation of cardiac imaging is a real challenge, because three main technical problems: 1) not rigid and complex nature of cardiac movements’ production, 2) low contrast between blood fluid and cardiac tissues, and 3) the presence of artifacts and noise. For these reasons, through this work, a review of several methods for segmenting cardiac imaging by several image techniques is presented. Additionally, an approach to cardiac structures segmentation problem is displayed and cardiac segmentation methods theoretical foundations are analyzed.
