Medical terminologies for the automatic grouping of diseases and treatments codified by computer system

Abstract:

Computer systems in the area of health store patient information. These systems use terminologies that allow the normalization and codification of medical information. Unified Medical Language System is a terminology that works with medical terms such as diagnoses, treatments, diseases, medications. In Ecuador, the National Table of Basic Medicines is used to codified drugs. Although these terminologies help eliminate redundancy of information, it still exists a large number of codes. Therefore, identifying the relationship between diseases and treatments is a laborious task and prone to errors if it is performed manually. Considering the aforementioned, this paper focuses on the automatic identification of relationships between diseases and treatments. A web application was developed that automatically identifies and groups diseases and treatments based on the codes belonging to the terminologies above-mentioned. The application allows integrating other technologies or updating existing ones.
