Memes y violencia de género en Facebook estudio de caso memes UTC lo mejor
Abstract:
This research project result from the need to analyze expressions of gender violence in publications on Facebook, consolidated as one of the largest platforms for communication and virtual social interaction. The objective of this research is to identify how gender violence manifests itself in the memes that circulate on the "Memes UTC lo major”, page created in the environment of the Technical University of Cotopaxi, the followers interact using this communication space to share and propagate multimedia information. The methodology applied in this researching is of a qualitative, through the application of virtual ethnography, focused on the follow-up of the publications of the page "Memes UTC lo mejor" using the observation card as a data collection instrument, through which a file was obtained conformed by 79 memes collected during a month of follow-up, in addition the focal group was used, as a technique for the selection of the memes obtained from the publications in the page and the application of the analysis of the discourse. The results of the dissertation analysis made it possible to identify the presence of micro-male chauvinism and symbolic gender violence in the memes. In this way, the researching project seeks to demonstrate how gender-based violence is present and naturally manifests on the social network Facebook. In conclusion, memes are shown as typical communication elements of digital media, so it is ecessary to encourage users to self-regulate and critically analyze when publishing, commenting or sharing content.
