Methodological proposal for the design of a systems of sustainability indicators (SSI) in mining regions of Iberoamerica

Abstract:

This paper represents a skip forward to reach sustainable mining in Iberoamerica. It represents the result of reseach carried out from the knowledge of the mining-metallurgy activity and experiences acquired in this field, upon which to base a system of sustainability inicators as a dynamic and changing process in which all interested stake holders participated: mining companies, community, territorial administrations, scientific institutions and organisation, environmentalists and other. The text deals with a basic methodological line in the design of a system of sustainability indicators (SSI) that revised the processes and phenomena that affect mining in Iberoamerica. The results obtained are the product of multidisciplinary research and are characterized by their flexibility and aplicability.
