Methodology for the design, operation, control and maintenance of sanitary landfill in Venezuela

Abstract:

By considering the evolution of the present situation of handling and final disposal of municipal solid wastes as well as the recovery level of some constituents, a methodology is proposed for the design, operation, control and maintenance of sanitary landfills, considering the optimal site selection, development of environmental impact assessment studies, volume reduction by means of origin separation and minimization of deleterious effects to the environment by the continuous control of the landfill as well as planning and implementation of preventive and corrective maintenance of equipment and installations. This methodology can be applied in several places, adapting it to the specific conditions of each one.
