Microbial culture collection from CIBE (CCM-CIBE): A collection for research
Abstract:
Microorganisms have been a source of critical industrial innovations, and their preservation has contributed to the development of research worldwide. However, there are only a few initiatives that seek to preserve microorganisms with biotechnological potential in Ecuador. The collection of microbial cultures CCM-CIBE seeks to protect Ecuador's microbiodiversity and contribute to its study by identifying, conserving, and distributing microorganisms. In our collection, we employ long-term conservation methods such as preservation in water, preservation in mineral oil, cryopreservation, and lyophilization. Likewise, the CCM-CIBE can provide services for the storage of microorganisms and receive public or private microbial deposits, guaranteed through viability and security controls of the strains and the information related to each microorganism. The collection contains fungi, yeasts, and pathogenic bacteria from crops, biological controllers, microorganisms present in fermentation processes, all of which seek to promote the study of our micro biodiversity and contribute to the improvement of agricultural processes, pharmaceutical, and food industries.
