Microbial degradation of disinfectants
Abstract:
Disinfectants are chemical products that eliminate pathogens and prevent their development. Its use has reduced the risk of infections in different environments such as industry and home. However, due to the synthetic nature of disinfectants, they tend to be toxic to human health, animal and plant life, and tend to bioaccumulate in environments. It is for this reason that various regulatory agencies such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have begun to establish protocols to analyze the environmental impact and risks involved in the presence of these pollutants in various settings. The scientific community has not been oblivious to this problem and they have developed bioremediation procedures that have given great results.
