Abstract Introduction: The water of volcanic lakes is not sterile, in it a microbiota with different metabolic capacities has adapted over millennia. The microorganisms of volcanic lakes in Ecuador have been little studied and their quantity and diversity are still unknown. Objective of the work was to know the microbiological quality of the water of Lake Quilotoa, located in the Province of Cotopaxi-Ecuador. Methodology: Two samplings were carried out during 2019, collecting a total of 32 samples.
