Microorganismo causales de las infecciones vaginales en mujeres embarazadas y no embarazadas de la Consulta Externa del Hospital Mariana de Jesús durante el período comprendido entre junio del 2017 a febrero del 2018

Abstract:

Vaginal infections represent one of the most frequent reasons why female patients, being pregnant or not, go to medical examination. This is even more frequently observed in Latin American countries, where exists the association with bad hygiene and lack of health knowledge. Principal etiological agents of these disease are Gardenella vaginalis, in case of bacterial infections, and Candida spp or Tricomona vaginalis, in vaginitis associated with fungus and parasites. This study was developed in Maternal Hospital Mariana de Jesus, with the objective of establishing the prevalence of vaginal infections among pregnant and not pregnant patients, trying to describe an association between this diagnosis and the pregnant state, also with its possible complications. The type of study was horizontal, descriptive and with retrospective focus, collecting clinical documents of 172 patients, and organizing them in tables in order to examine the results. In terms of results, it was observed a higher frequency in pregnant patients, with 65% of cases, against 35 of not pregnant ones. Also, it was established an existing association between bacterial vaginal infection and pregnant state, also with vaginitis (p<0,001). An elevated prevalence of pregnant patient’s cases who developed early stage birth was observed, establishing a direct association between vaginal infections, especially bacterial, and this complication. It is recommended to evaluate patients in order to prevent these complications to develop, which are the most frequent, and ensure a better life quality for the patients and their future children.
