Microorganismos encontrados en punta de cateter venoso central en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos, estudio a realizar en el Hospital Teodoro Maldonado Carbo, período enero 2016-diciembre 2016

Abstract:

Infections associated with the use of the central venous catheter belong to the group of nosocomial infections that are those developed in patients with hospital admission or who remain in contact with health personnel and who have not been present prior to hospitalization. Objective of the study was to determine the most frequent microorganisms found in central venous catheter tip in ICU patients at Teodoro Maldonado Carbo Hospital. Through indirect and retrospective research, data from clinical records and laboratory of hospitalized patients that met inclusion criteria were collected. The study group consisted of 52 patients, in which the sex and the age of the most frequent presentation were found. Most of the bacteria had a bacterial culture without growth, 4 had Pseudomonaaeruginosa positivity, 3 for Proteusmirabillis, 2 for Klebsiellapneumoniae And 1 for Acinetobacterbaumanii. The most prevalent disease before admission is arterial hypertension followed by type 2 diabetes mellitus. Sepsis and polytraumatized patients are the most frequently present. Age varies, as does leukocytosis present in patients, although it tends to have values greater than 18000 in most cases. Empirical antibiotic therapy in patients entering the ICU with signs of catheter infection even before collecting the tip is the most frequent cause of non-bacterial growth. Men are affected more frequently than women in the study.
